Turners Talk - 8th August 2009

CAMIE GRABS HEADLINES!

Camie McGowan grabbed the headlines at the Racewall on Saturday night – not for good results unfortunately - but for rolling his mini! McGowan came out of the pit bend and then hit the wall on the main straight hard which resulted in his car rolling and coming to rest on its side.
Camie then scrambled out of his car, with a bit of help, and luckily none the worse for his escapade.

DAWSON’S FINAL

Robbie Dawson ended up winning his first Racewall final this year and did he have to fight for it. Whilst there weren’t too many cars at the track he fought his way through the field and then had to move George MacMillan over going into the pit bend. Whilst David Polley soon loomed large in his mirrors he held on to win the race.

PROSTOX FIREWORKS!

The prostox final on Saturday night turned out to be a cracking race with two ex saloon drivers Stewart Aitken and Peter Robertson having an exciting dice. Robertson led for most of the race with Aitken on his back bumper only for the lead to change hands just after the half distance when Aitken finally found the line to get through. However he only lasted a lap in the lead before Robertson snatched it back and when Aitken pulled out with only a couple of laps remaining leaving Robertson to take an easy win.

MINIS IN FORM

The ministox drivers were again in good form and it didn’t seem to matter whether the track was wet or dry! Camie McGowan rolled his car but there was close racing in heat one until Kyle Irvine just managed to open up a slight gap to win the opening heat. A coat of paint was all that separated Kyle Anderson and Kevin Morrison at the end of heat two with Anderson just managing to hold on. In the third race Morrison was taking no chances and managed to make a clean break before picking up his first win of the night.

ROBIN RELIANT SCOTTISH

The Robin Reliant Scottish Championship takes place tonight and if it is anything like last year’s offering then it certainly is going to be worthwhile watching. Last year James Jamieson came out on top and providing National Hot Rod commitments don’t interfere he will be there to defend. The cars come in all shapes and sizes and we could again see a couple of extended Robins and perhaps one with a front end at both ends! Those more keen to win will have their cars set up for the bends whilst others are out there to enjoy themselves – let battle commence!

AWAY FROM HOME!

Down at Taunton, Gordon Moodie continued picking up important wins coming out on top in the Ben Fund race adding to his recent success in the UK Championship at Skegness and European Championship win at Northampton. In the European Championship for saloons it was one of the inform drivers Todd Jones who won the title. Up at Crimond Graham Kelly won the final from his blue grade with Dennis Middler in second place. The heats went to G. Kelly and Kevin Bruce whilst the GN went to Gary Coffey with G. Kelly bringing his car through into sixth place.
