Turners Talk - 1st August 2009
MOODIE'S BACK!
Gordon Moodie made his return to the Racewall a winning one when he went through to win a hotly contested formula II final. Moodie had sat behind Chris Burgoyne for most of the race and it was only on the last bend that he sent Burgoyne wide before going through to take the chequer. Earlier Moodie had won a heat and was on for a good finish in the GN only to tangle with Stuart Mitchell and then drop to eighth. Moodie has also secured himself a front row start to his World Championship semi-final after only managing five qualifying rounds!
ALEXANDER'S DOUBLE!
The British saloon champion Gordon Alexander was in good form at the Racewall going through to win both of the heats. However his chances of making it three in a row disappeared when he was sent wide early on in the final and whilst he was going well took advantage of a race suspension before finishing in second place.
NEW CARS!
There were a couple of drivers with new cars on show on Saturday night and both were in the saloons. Willie Mitchell appeared with his brand new chassis and ended up in second place during the first heat. The other was Robin Copland who has a Webster car at his disposal and he started from the rear of the grid to get to grips with the car's handling.
ALBA TV
Louise Maclean and Alba TV were on hand to do a spot of filming at the Racewall on Saturday night and they seemed to be plenty of action to keep them on their toes! Prior to the start to the meeting Louise was having a run in a banger, mind you there were six of the regular drivers out there with her and hopefully it will turn out to be a good programme!
MIDGETS
The GP midgets are making their return to the Cowdenbeath Racewall after a space of some 25 years. I remember seeing them at Newtongrange and down south and the cars are very quick indeed. Hopefully they will not be daunted by the wall and treat us to some fast racing.
EUROPEAN FOR SALOONS
The saloon drivers are down at Taunton this weekend where they are racing for their European Championship. There could well be a good chance of the title heading back north with the form that Frankie Cunningham and Gordon Alexander are in at present. However Chris Lattka and Stevie Honeyman cannot be ruled out but there are plenty of fast English cars at present so it is going to be a hard task for them to win.
