Turner's Talk - 4th April 2009
KIRKALDY
Alan Kirkaldy dominated the formula IIs on Saturday night winning both of the heats and then the final from his first start from the front of the grid. Kirkaldy has made a smooth transition from circuit racing to the ovals and it will be interesting to see how he fares after the first grading period.
STOCK RODS
There was a big shunt in the stock rods on Saturday night which saw the car of Grant McGowan crash heavily into the pit bend wall closely followed by the car of Darren McAlpine. Some of the cars in close order had to take avoiding action to try to miss the shunt. Both McAlpine’s and McGowan’s car were well of the deck when they hit the wall and the rear of McGowan’s car was wrecked but more importantly both drivers were unhurt.
FROLICS
There was plenty of action on the track with saloon driver Jonathan Lattka ending up dumped into the wall on the opening laps of the first saloon heat and sustaining sufficient damage to keep him out of the remainder of the races. Stuart Shevill jnr had to put a new back bumper onto his saloon in between heats whilst Alan Stirling, Michael Bethune and Alan Ainslie all had scrapes with the wall.
BACK IN ACTION
It was good to see Chris Lattka back in saloon action after being a bit down at the start to the season although he didn’t have too good a meeting.
Sandy Allan returned to saloon racing after buying Barry Nelson’s car – he only got it on Thursday - whilst Richard Stirling and Paul Honeyman were having their first run of the season.
And what about Honeyman – his car isn’t black!
MARTIN’S GOOD SPELL
Siobhan Martin seems to be enjoying her stock rod career having picked up a heat and final win last time out and this time two heat wins and a fourth in this week’s final.
Martin will be heading up the grades at the first grading and it will be interesting to see how she fares then.
HOT RODS
There was some fast racing in the hot rods on Saturday night with three different winners. Ian Donaldson and Robbie Burgoyne took heat wins whilst Stuart Walker led the final from start to finish to claim his first win of the year.
