Turner's Talk - 27th June 2009

SCOTTISH FORMULA IIS

Tonight we have one of the prestigious formula II meetings of the season – the Scottish Championship – and if things are anything like past races then look out for fireworks!
The defending champion is Gordon Moodie but the race is a week too early for him and he will have to content himself with mechanicing for World Champion Ian Thompson.
Thompson must start out as the favourite to win, it would be his first Scottish, but he is going to have to be at his best to do so. John Fortune will be looking to get his hands back on the trophy having recovered from his rib injury.
With the meeting conflicting with Mildenhall we can have quite a few visitors like David Polley, Paul, Broatch and Barry Goldin and can we discount Rob Speak from coming north and then taking the trophy back home with him?
Hopefully it will be a good race with the outcome decided on the track and not in the scruntineering area afterwards!

HOLIDAY TIME!

After this week’s meeting we have the annual holiday break where we get out our bucket and spades and head south to the sun!?
The big meetings over the break are at Skegness and Ipswich so if you go to either then I hope you enjoy your racing.
The racing in Scotland restarts on Saturday 18th at the Racewall.

WILD SALOON FINAL!

Wasn’t that a cracking saloon final? It looked as if it was going to be a quiet one with Chris Carey leading although Paul Honeyman was slowly catching him. Then stepped in Frankie Cunningham who sent the 507 car crashing into the wall and out of the race. This caused a race suspension and when it did get going Stevie Honeyman quickly dispatched Frankie into the top bend wall where he was collected by Luke Grief and Carey!

WHAT’S TO COME!

When the stock cars return there are plenty of meetings to wet the appetite.    The big one obviously is the stock rod World Championship in September and the hot rod World Cup whilst the following day at Knockhill both have their Scottish Open Championships to decide. Then there are Scottish Championships for the saloons, stock rods, hot rods and 2 litre bangers, the Robin Scottish plus the finals of the white/yellow saloon and formula II challenges.
The season rounds off with the formula II Champion of Champions race and the saloon Superbowl with the Charlene Kingston trophy to round off the season.
Oh - and there are the track points championships to be decided!
