Turner's Talk - 18th April 2009
NELSON’S WOES!
Mikey Nelson will want to forget his formula II debut in a hurry. Nelson was using his brother’s car and was heading to his grid position when he got a wee bit too much power on resulting in the car turning right and crashing head first into the infield fence. In the process he ripped the front bumper off the car and his debut came to an abrupt halt.
FOLAN AT LAST!
After many a near miss Barry Folan at last came out on top during the formula II final on Saturday night and whilst that means a blue roof next time out, look for Folan having to appear with a red roof.
NEW OR NOT SO NEW FACES!
Apart from Mikey Nelson there was a couple of others making debuts or switching formula.
Colin Frame brought out a formula II, it looks as if it was Derek Gilchrist’s, and after a tentative start was coming along nicely.
Scott Brennan made his ministox debut whilst Russell Clacher was out in the stock rods and all but won the final, only losing out during the closing laps of the race.
STIRLING ON HIS SIDE!
Dale Stirling was the only driver who really came a cropper on Saturday night getting his ministox riding the pit bend wall and then fell off and ended up on his side.
BURGOYNE’S HAT TRICK
Robbie Burgoyne had a great night in the hot rods taking his car to three successive wins on each occasion winning by a considerable margin.
Back in action was Ian McGuigan with a new National and whilst he started from the rear of the grid the car was getting quicker each time he took to the track.
GRANT GETS TWO!
In the stock rods yellow grader Andy Grant was in top form going through to win his first heat but had to be content with second spot in heat three. During the final he chased after the leader and finally caught up with him with only a handful of laps to go before going through to pick up his second easter egg of the night!
MINISTOX MAYHEM
There were plenty of ministox drivers on show and that as expected brought out the best in them. Dale Stirling ended up on his side, Kyle Anderson headed to the wall, Lyndsey Clyne was delayed in a shunt whilst Kira Bruce needed help out of her car!
Robert Gamble won heat one, Kyle Irvine heat two whilst Liam Rennie just held on to win heat three.
