FALLOUT!
The biggest formula II crash of the night involved Robbie Dawson and Charlie Whitfield taking place during the final.
They had previously clashed during heat two but during the final Charlie quickly found himself half a lap down after a spin. When Robbie lapped him both cars came together at high speed, crashing violently in front of the stand. Charlie’s car had to be taken out by the Manitou having ripped off both wheels on one side.
UP AND OVER
In the prostox heat three there were two rollovers within a lap or so of each other. First to roll was Grant Weston after he had made heavy contact with the infield tyres on the main straight. On the restart Alan Kirby made contact with the wall and the car took a while to decide whether it was going over or not!
SKEGGY SEMI FOR THE ONES
The first of the formula I World Champion semi-finals took place at Skegness on Saturday night. Carl Pickering rolled in what appeared to be an entertaining race that saw Paul Harrison being the first car home ahead of Frankie Wainman Jnr, Michael Scriven and the defending champion Andy Smith.
MELROSE’S FINAL WIN
Pete Melrose brought out his new prostox on Saturday and went on to win the final. He got sixth in heat three which was enough for him to qualify for the final.
He led the final for all bar one lap but when Fraser Anderson overtook him it was only for a brief spell.
MASCAR
We can expect a good turn out of MASCAR drivers over the weekend and the scaled down Nextel Cup cars should be quite a sight at both Knockhill on Saturday and Cowdenbeath on Sunday.
The cars are 2/3rds the size of the actual car and are very close to the full sized cars.
Steve Daikin is one name that a lot of the fans will remember as he raced formula IIs for sometime whilst Ian Whittaker paid the ccasional visit with his hot rod.
