Turner's Talk 5th November 2011
BROWN GRABS SUPERBOWL
Shane Brown again demonstrated his liking for the Racewall by winning yet another title here. Brown showed right away that he was one of the race favourites when he ran away with heat one whilst Luke Grief then won heat two. This paired the drivers on the front row of the red graders – the grid being formed in graded order – and once the race started he began to move through the grid although Georgie Boult had a useful lead. Then Stuart Shevill Jnr was sent crashing out suspending the race and when the race restarted Brown dived through to take the lead. Once there he romped away to a comfortable win, picking up his first Superbowl win as a result.
NEAT PARKING!
Mike McCombie had a novel way to park his car when spun out in one of the heats – two wheels on the track and two on tyres!
Mike scrambled out of his car unhurt, disappointed that he had been spun but happy with the way that his car had performed.
Not content with his parking episode McCombie then decided to roll his saloon during one of the heats on Sunday afternoon but still was back out to finish in both the memorial trophy races!
JUST CHAMPION CHRIS!
Chris Burgoyne got his hands back on the Champion of Champions race but during the early stages sent Gordon Moodie wide and crashing into the wall. After that Burgoyne worked his way quickly through the grid and to pick up the trophy he last won – about ten years ago!
DISCO TROPHY
There was a cracking turn out of ministox drivers with no fewer than 10 visitors from south of the border and as a result there was plenty of exciting racing!
It looked as if it could have been a home 1-2-3 in the Disco trophy final until a race stoppage!
Once the race restarted Brendan Osbourne got the better of those ahead before he went through to win from Gemma Russell and Dale Buchan with Russell using Buchan’s spare car!
BROWN ALMOST UNSTOPPABLE ON SUNDAY!
Shane Brown continued his impressive Racewall form on Sunday although in one of the heats he had to give best to Stuart Shevill Jnr.
However Brown won his first heat and then was in unstoppable form before going through to win the Gordon Barclay Memorial trophy then the Charlene Kingston Memorial trophy to round off an excellent weekend’s racing.
GREEN TOPS IN SCOTTISH OPEN
The prostox drivers were in excellent form on Sunday with John Berry in a shunt and then when he returned to the fray lost a wheel and promptly rolled his car.
There were big shunts, some blocking the track, some seeing cars written off but luckily none of the drivers were hurt – although maybe their pride took a battering!
In what was an exciting final John Green caught and passed long time leader Kevin Morrison to go through to win the Scottish Open Championship.
