Turner's Talk 10th September 2011
SPECTACULAR BANGER ROLL
What about that double banger rollover during the meeting final? Pretty spectacular to say the least! When Michael Muirhead slowed on the top bend it spelled a recipe for disaster with Jon Taylor and David Moore appearing on the scene and being helped into the corner. When they hit the back of Muirhead’s car both concertinaed with Taylor’s standing on its nose and Moore’s on its boot before they came to rest on top of other cars! Happily none of the drivers were hurt in the incident although I dare say they will be a bit sore the following day!
TAKE THE HIGH ROAD
With ex-formula II driver Russell Taylor sponsoring the formula II final through RWT Fabrications the drivers from the north east met up before driving convoy style to the Racewall, similar to what was done in the days of Newtongrange. All told there were nine drivers from the north east who were a welcome addition to the field, making the racing more busy and exciting.
TURNER TROPHY WINNERS
The Turner trophies were up for grabs for the formula IIs and the saloons and in the end both defending holders took the trophies back home with them!
In the formula IIs, Gordon Moodie took the lead around the half distance and was then never in danger of being caught.
On the other hand the saloons was a bit more controversial with the first home Ian Low being penalised for an earlier infringement and in the end Stuart Shevill Jnr took the trophy back home with him after having had to survive a pit bend shunt which no doubt he was well and truly involved in!
SCOTTISH FOR STOCK RODS
The main race of the evening will be the stock rod Scottish Championship but this year the defending champion Robert McDonald will not be there to defend his title having recently emigrated to Australia.
The favourites would appear to come from David Philp, Jonathan Lattka and Kerr Paterson but there are plenty of other drivers out there who, given any sort of a break, could prove to be very difficult to catch.
MIDDLER IN THE DOLDRUMS!
Dennis Middler went to Benidorm on holiday and his father told me that he was on the receiving end of a mugging. They even took his trainers! Dennis Snr told me that he was alright but he must have been pretty shaken after the incident!
CAMIE IN CHARGE FOR DISCO 3
Camie McGowan keeps chalking up the points in the Disco series and whilst he finished in sixth place in heat one thereafter was uncatchable, going on to win the next couple of races.
HARKESS WINS SCOTTISH BANGERS
The Scottish banger championship turned out to be a cracking race with Tubby Thomson the early leader. However he hit troubles and in a late challenge Eion Harkess sent the leading car into a spin before going through to win from Doug Thomson and Michael Muirhead.
