Turners Talk - 25th/26th October 2008
ROLLER
Bryan Forrest was the only driver to roll last Saturday and he did so going onto the main straight with the car ending up on its side almost at the start/finish line. Garry Sime and Steve Maclachlan finished with their bumpers against Forrest's car but Bryan was able to step out of his car unhurt. Mind you if it makes things easier it was Ally Noble's car!
FIRST TIME WINNERS THIS YEAR!
At this late stage of the season there are drivers picking up their first Racewall wins of the season.
Steve Donavan left it late to secure his place in the Formula II Champions of Champions final with only the last chance qualifying race to run.
In the Saloons Lindsay Wilson and Gordon Alexander both got their first wins of the year although the latter had been close on a number of occasions
IT'S NO MA WING!
In the Forrest rollover Garry Sime and Steve Maclachlan managed to get their cars entwined and it took quite a while to get them separated with Steve complaining to his pal Gary "Just how much of the track do you need?" The wing on Steve's car was damaged with Garry moaning that he had lent it to Steve after his recent rollover whilst Steve just stood there with a broad smile on his face.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
The Champion of Champions Formula II race is open to all winners at GMP tracks and at present there have been 29 eligible drivers. However at least five of the Racewall drivers won't appear and there are doubts as to how many of the Warton winners will head north for the meeting.
SUPERBOWL
As usual the Superbowl is a big attraction for the Saloon drivers and already there is a good field of cars booked in for the weekend where on Sunday the drivers will be racing for the Charlene Kingston Memorial trophy.
David Aldous was last year's winner and he will certainly be back to defend his title but he will have to fight hard to do so.
TRACK POINTS D DAY
As the season draws to a close there are still track points titles to decide. In the Formula IIs Paul Ford leads by 31 points from Robbie Dawson leaving the latter with it all to do with only one meeting to reverse the trend.
Frankie Cunningham is some 37 points clear of Stuart Shevill Jnr and whilst it looks as if Frankie should win there are still two meetings to go so Frankie will have to be on his guard if he wants to pick up his first saloon track points.
James Jamieson has the Hot Rod version secure as does Tam Linden in the ProStocks whilst Stewart Armit is 31 points ahead of David Philp in the Stock Rods.
