PHILP TAKES SCOTTISH

Congratulations to David Philp on becoming the Scottish stock rod champion on Saturday night. Philp started the race from pole position and whilst he led every lap there weren’t too many when he didn’t have to fend off a challenge. The defending champion Robert McDonald was going for his fourth successive Scottish win and trying to equal the record of Gillian Philp however a ride on the pit bend wall ended his hopes.

RACEWALL.NET SUCCESS

There were a couple of drivers who left the Racewall with smiles on their faces after having come out on top to end up with a Racewall.Net voucher. Daniel Rae was the top yellow in the minis whilst Craig McLaren was the first white top in the hot rods.

DONALDSON’S BIG SHUNT

Ian Donaldson has been a revelation in the hot rods of recent but all that came to a bone jarring end on Saturday night. Donaldson, who had won the opening heat, was leading in the final when his throttle jammed wide open as he headed into the pit bend. He hit the pit bend wall flat out and rode the wall before crashing back down onto the track with the car looking very sorry for itself. Luckily Ian stepped out relatively unhurt although no doubt a bit sore on Sunday morning!

STOCK ROD POINTS CHANGE OF LEADER

The race for the stock rod track points championship is getting very close and we have seen a change in the leadership after the Scottish Championship. Stewart Armit is the new leader by my reckoning and is now 3 points clear of Robert McDonald. Kerr Paterson moves into third place some 25 points behind McDonald with David Philp a further 3 points adrift. There are three meetings remaining so none of the drivers can afford to have a poor meeting if they want to win the points.

GOLDEN BRISTOL

Congratulations to Gordon Moodie who went through to win the coveted formula II World Championship down at Bristol. Moodie’s success also bolstered his chances of retaining the National Points championship and with the Racewall being a solus meeting on Saturday, if Chris Bradbury doesn’t appear then his task of catching Moodie will be extremely difficult.
