Saturday night’s stock car action at the Cowdenbeath Racewall proved to be exciting with the saloon drivers taking top billing with southwest star Shane Brown winning the Superbowl. Chris Burgoyne won the formula II Champion of Champions race whilst Gordon Moodie retained the James Clarke Cochrane trophy final.

JUST CHAMPION BURGOYNE!
On Saturday night the formula II drivers found themselves racing on a greasy track surface with the visitors being Ryan McCrorry from Northern Ireland and Sam Wagner from the north east of England.
The first race was the last chance-qualifying race with Paul Reid winning from Holly Glen and Stephen Forster.
Heat two which was the Champion of Champions race and was open to those drivers who have won a race at either the Racewall or at Knockhill. Not long after the race had started Chris Burgoyne sent Moodie wide going into the top bend and bounced off the wall before retiring. Burgoyne then went on to win from Wagner and McCrorry.
Moodie was back out to win heat two from Garry Sime and Robbie Dawson.
The final saw Moodie  sent Burgoyne wide and into the top bend wall before he went through to retain the James Clarke Cochrane trophy from MacMillan Jnr and  Dawson.
MacMillan Jnr then won the Grand National from Sime and Wagner.

BROWN TAKES SUPER SUPERBOWL
There were 33 saloon drivers at the track including World Champion Eddie Darby, Shane Brown and David Aldous.
Heat one saw Brown go through to win from Adam Low and Neil McLaughlin.   Georgie Boult led heat two for most of the time but lost out at the close to Luke Grief with Stevie Honeyman third. Willie Mitchell charged away to an easy consolation win and led home Barry Hollett and Paul Tuppen.
Boult got the Superbowl underway but soon we had Honeyman bouncing off the wall as Brown went through but there was another shunt with A. Low and N. McLaughlin tangling and crashing out whilst a big shunt on the start/finish line saw Glen Heeps and Marty Colliver finishing bumper to bumper and then being collected by the following group of cars.
The grid was reformed and again Boult went straight into the lead whilst Mike McCombie ended up spinning out. Ian Govier moved into second but was being challenged buy A. Low whilst Mitchell was reeling them in. Brown had shaken off the rest of the red graders and was making up ground whilst Stuart Shevill Jnr was running just ahead of Darby. Aldous was sent crashing round the wall whilst Shevill Jnr was closing up on Brown. As he set about making his bid for second Darby sent him crashing out of the race and with his car stranded again the wall out came the yellow flags.
The field lined up behind long time leader Boult who led the pack away but had Brown diving inside as they exited the pit bend and promptly spun out of the race. Brown now had Darby to contend with but things were made easy for him as Gordon Alexander caught and passed Darby only for Darby to retake second a lap later. However as Alexander was about to retake second Barry Russell forced his way through but Darby had opened up a slight gap as he did so. Alexander retired after a brush against the wall as Brown became the Superbowl champion from Darby and Russell.

OSBORNE DISCO TROPHY
As usual the ministox drivers were in top form and their numbers were swelled by the addition of 10 visiting drivers from down south.
Heat one went to Sid Madgwick who was ahead of Camie McGowan and Liam Rennie at the chequer. Heat two went to Brandon Osborne who led home Kyle Picton and Craig Banwell. The third heat saw Rennie take the win crossing the line clear of Kieran Howie and McGowan. The final, for the Disco trophy, saw Osborne take his second win of the night and he led home Gemma Russell and Dale Buchan.
